About

PBS News Student Reporting Labs trains young people to report and produce news stories, and accepted student work is considered for PBS national and local platforms. Most of the work happens online, so students anywhere in the country can take part. For the 2026-27 school year, students can apply to co-host the On Our Minds podcast, a paid role (applications due January 8), pitch stories through Pitch & Publish (the spring pitch form opens December 15) or submit short videos through SRL Shorts on a rolling basis. The all-expenses-paid Student Reporting Labs Summer Academy, a weeklong in-person journalism program, opens applications in early spring 2027.

Requirements

Open to young people under 25; the opportunities are aimed at students. Apply through each opportunity's online form: podcast co-host applications are due January 8, the spring Pitch & Publish form opens December 15 and the Summer Academy application opens in early spring 2027.
