About

The Ranger Conservation Corps Internship (RCC) is an environmental internship from NYC Parks for high school students in grades 9 through 12 who care about nature and environmental issues. Interns work alongside the Urban Park Rangers on habitat restoration in natural areas of the city's flagship parks. The program may also include field trips such as canoeing and overnight camping. Participants earn community service hours. RCC runs two sessions each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Meetings take place one afternoon a week on a school day and last about two to two and a half hours. The program page describes each session as roughly eight weeks long, while the interest form asks students to commit to ten weeks per semester, so applicants should confirm the length with the Rangers. Students can request a placement in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, or Staten Island. The Urban Park Rangers help match each student with a park location and schedule, and students can reach the Urban Park Rangers by calling 311.

Requirements

Open to high school students in grades 9-12 who can commit to a weekly school-day afternoon session for the full semester. Registration is rolling and open year round. To apply, submit the online contact form with your school, grade, preferred NYC borough, and a short note on why you want to join.
