About
The Lehman College Now STEM Research Academy is a free, two-semester science research program at Lehman College in the Bronx for New York City public high school sophomores and juniors. It is run through CUNY's College Now program. In the 2026 cycle, students first took a one-credit Scientific Research course (NSS150) that met in person on Wednesday afternoons from February 11 to May 20. The spring course is followed by a summer portion, a paid hands-on research internship. Summer participants chose an environmental science track, placed with the Bronx River Alliance, or a biomedical sciences track in Lehman College labs alongside faculty and their teams. The 2026 summer session ran July 1 to August 13, Monday through Thursday from 9am to 4pm. Summer students write a paper on their research and present it at the NYC Science Consortium's symposium in August. Students who complete both parts earn a $1,575 stipend and college credit.
Requirements
Open to New York City public high school students in 10th or 11th grade with an overall average of 80 or higher, a Common Core math Regents score of 70 or higher (or a year of Regents-level math with an 80 average), English and science averages of 80 or higher, and a strong interest in STEM. Students must complete the spring course to apply for the summer internship. Priority goes to juniors, students from partner high schools, and students without research opportunities at their school.
