About
The Health Sciences Enrichment Institute (HSEI) is a summer program at the University of Kansas Medical Center for students who are about to start college or are in their first two years of college, offering extra science instruction and personal development. The program takes place on the KU Medical Center campus in Kansas City, Kansas. The 2026 program ran June 1 to June 26, 2026. Academic sessions cover biology, anatomy, microbiology, an introduction to research and an introduction to medicine. Participants also work on time management and study skills, take part in clinical skills training, and meet practicing health professionals.
Requirements
Graduating high school seniors who have been accepted to a college or university can apply, along with current college freshmen and sophomores. Applicants need at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale at the high school or college level. High school applicants must have completed at least two science courses and two math courses; college applicants need at least one science, one math and one English course. Applicants must also show a commitment to serving an underserved rural or urban area. To apply, students fill out an online form in one sitting and provide essay responses, a letter of recommendation and a transcript.
