About

DOROT's Teen Internship Program is a set of free, in-person volunteer internships in Manhattan for high school students who want to build connections with older adults. DOROT runs a four-week Summer Teen Internship for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and a separate Anita K. Hersh Jewish Summer Teen Internship. Summer interns meet Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 5 PM at DOROT's office at 171 W. 85th Street, with a closing celebration on the final evening. Activities include home visits with older adults, technology help, discussion groups, and arts workshops, and interns can earn more than 100 service hours. DOROT holds two summer sessions, and each intern joins only one. During the school year, students in the Academic Year Teen Internship volunteer one afternoon a week. The fall 2026 semester runs October 19 to December 10. There is no cost to participate.

Requirements

The Summer Teen Internship is open to rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, who must commit to all four weeks plus at least 15 volunteer hours during the following school year. The Anita K. Hersh Jewish Summer Teen Internship is for teens who identify as Jewish or have a Jewish parent or grandparent. The Academic Year Teen Internship is open to students in grades 9 through 12. Interns need access to a computer, smartphone, or tablet with WiFi and video. All programs require an application and a group interview. Summer applications reopen in fall/winter 2026 and are reviewed on a rolling basis from December to April, so early applications are encouraged.
