About

The YouthWorks Internship at DISCOVERY Children's Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada, is a paid internship for high school students ages 15 to 17. The museum started the program in 1993 to give local teens career guidance, work readiness training, and life skills in a hands-on museum setting. Students begin as volunteers in the museum's eight main galleries, where they learn the museum's policies, procedures, and mission. Teens with a disability that limits gallery floor work can be placed in another area of the museum. Once accepted, interns carry out job assignments next to staff members and rotate through different parts of the organization to build early professional experience. Interns are paid, and the program also helps students build a community service record for high school credit and college portfolios. Spots are limited and the program is competitive.

Requirements

Applicants must be currently enrolled in high school, be 15 to 17 years old, have finished volunteer training in all eight galleries, and be an active volunteer in good standing. Applications are accepted year round once the eligibility requirements are met. Interested students can reach the museum's Volunteer Services and YouthWorks Coordinator by phone or email for application materials.
