About
The Samuels Family LA-HIP High School Internship Program is a yearlong biomedical research internship at The Saban Research Institute of Children's Hospital Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California, for high school students. Interns do hands-on laboratory research under the mentorship of the institute's scientists during the summer before senior year, and the program pairs that research with college counseling, SAT preparation and college application workshops. The summer internship is full time, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, for seven weeks, and ends with a science symposium where interns present their work. Every participant receives a stipend, a Metro card and meals at the hospital cafeteria. College counseling starts in the spring and continues through senior year. The 2026 application window ran from November 3, 2025, to February 1, 2026.
Requirements
Current juniors at a public high school in Los Angeles County can apply, and they must have documentation to be legally employed in California and show strong academics and a passion for science. The online application asks for personal and academic information, extracurricular activities, a personal statement and essay, an unofficial or official transcript, and one or two recommendation letters from a science or math teacher or a counselor. A panel selects interns, and admitted students are expected to decline other summer programs.
