About

The City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge Student Internship Program is a local government internship for high school and college students in the Baton Rouge area. Interns work under contract with City-Parish departments, learning how the local Civil Service system operates while gaining practical work experience. Interns are paid an hourly rate every two weeks. During the school year, interns normally work no more than 20 hours per week, and they may work up to 40 hours per week in the summer. Positions are limited, and department heads choose the students who best fit their needs.

Requirements

High school applicants must be at least 16 years old and enrolled in grades 10 through 12 at a school in East Baton Rouge Parish, and they need a recommendation from their school counselor. The high school intern agreement asks students to keep a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students who are 18 or older must pass a background check and drug screening before starting. Interns arrange their own transportation to work. To apply, fill out the City-Parish online employment application and attach a resume.
