About

The Garden 2 Market Internship is a paid internship for high school students run by the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance. It is one of three paid internship programs the Alliance offers to high school students. This is an 8-week paid internship open to anyone interested in the food system. Interns study how food moves from the ground to the table, covering growing, selling and eating. They work in the Alliance's garden and learn about horticulture, composting and the social and community side of gardening. Interns also explore food justice issues. They learn how to run a weekly farm stand, including ordering, pricing, stocking the table and completing sales. Along the way they build communication skills and promote healthy eating in their community. The program includes chances to cook and taste new foods and recipes. Interns earn a ServSafe Food Handlers Certificate, which stays valid for three years. Interested first-year and returning interns can also take a tuition-free, three-credit college course through SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF). Interns from the 2026 program created a cookbook.
