About
The High School Summer Research Internship at the University of Utah's John and Marcia Price College of Engineering is a summer lab internship that teaches rising high school seniors how academic research works. Applicants do not need to find a mentor on their own. The college matches each intern with a faculty member and lab based on their interests, and the intern works on a project assigned by that lab's principal investigator. The program lasts eight weeks, with interns working 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, for about 30 hours a week. The listed program dates are June 8 to July 31. Interns also attend weekly cohort meetings, complete a group project, and present their work at a closing symposium. There is no cost to participate, but interns are not paid and housing is not provided.
Requirements
Open only to students who will be high school seniors the following school year; the current cycle is for students graduating in 2028. Younger students are pointed to the college's separate Summer Research Boot Camp. There are no formal academic requirements, though some labs may expect math readiness and basic technical skills. Apply with an essay, a full high school transcript and a teacher recommendation; an interview may be required.
