About

The UChicago Summer Session Pre-College Program is the University of Chicago's set of summer courses for high school students, offered both on campus in Chicago and online. Residential options include Enrichment, Career Insight, Immersion and Practicum programs, while remote students can take Summer Online courses lasting three to five weeks or the six-to-eight-week Pre-College Summer Language Institute. Immersion lets students take an undergraduate-level course taught by UChicago faculty. Courses lasting three or four weeks earn undergraduate credit, while one- and two-week programs do not. In 2026, Immersion ran in two sessions, June 15 to July 2 and July 7 to July 23. Tuition for 2026 ranged from $3,000 for Enrichment to $15,200 for Practicum, with Summer Online at $4,980. Need-based aid is available for families earning $125,000 or less, though awards are partial.

Requirements

Eligible grades vary by program: Immersion is for current 9th, 10th and 11th graders, some Summer Online courses are open to current 11th and 12th graders, and Enrichment students must be at least 14. Students of any citizenship may apply. Applicants submit an unofficial high school transcript, supplementary essays, a typed writing sample and one teacher recommendation, plus a $75 fee that is waived for need-based aid applicants. The 2026 regular deadline was March 12, 2026.
