About

The Tempe Mayor's Youth Advisory Commission (MYAC) is a city commission made up entirely of high school students who advise the Mayor and City Council of Tempe, Arizona, on issues affecting young people. MYAC was founded in 1980. The commission has up to 30 members. Each Tempe Union High School District school in the city can have one to three representatives, and the remaining seats are filled at large, including by online and homeschooled students. Members serve three-year terms. The commission meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. during the school year, September through May, at the Tempe Public Library. Commissioners share youth perspectives with city leaders, help city departments reach young residents, promote civic education, sponsor annual youth events, and represent Tempe youth at local, state, and national events.

Requirements

Open to students in grades 9 through 12 who either live in Tempe, Arizona, or attend school in the city. Students apply online through the City of Tempe. The city does not post a fixed application deadline, so interested students should contact the commission staff for current openings.
