About

The Mercer County Student Internship Program is a paid summer internship in county government for high school and college students who live or study in Mercer County, New Jersey. Interns are placed in a Mercer County department, where they help with daily operations and projects while learning how public services work. The program follows a cohort model that mixes departmental work with professional development and team-based learning. Interns work up to 25 hours per week during the summer. High school interns take part in a job readiness and professional development series, with sessions that may cover financial literacy, artificial intelligence, conflict management, professional branding and communication skills. College interns may lead some of these sessions for high school participants.

Requirements

Applicants must be at least 15 years old when the internship takes place and should be enrolled at a high school, college or university in Mercer County, or be active students who live in the county. Students under 18 need valid New Jersey working papers, and interns 18 or older must pass a background check. Students apply through the county's Primepoint applicant system and choose one department to apply to.
