About

The Los Alamos National Laboratory High School Internship Program (LANL) gives New Mexico high school students hands-on work experience at the national lab in Los Alamos, with roles spanning STEM, business and other fields. It is aimed at students who will have senior standing when the internship starts. Students usually intern the summer before senior year, and seniors can also intern during their senior year. During the school year, interns work part-time, usually 10 to 20 hours a week. In the summer, interns can work full-time, up to 40 hours a week, and summer internships typically last about 10 weeks.

Requirements

Applicants must be at least 16, have senior standing when the internship begins, have a 2.75 GPA, attend a high school in New Mexico, and pass a pre-employment drug test. Juniors usually apply during the spring semester of junior year; students who want to intern the summer after graduating are directed to LANL's undergraduate program instead. Submit an online application with a current transcript, a resume and a personal statement; a letter of recommendation is optional. LANL hires in three periods each year: the fall window runs from mid-August to mid-September, the spring window from late November to late January, and the summer window from February 1 to April 5. The Fall 2026 application window closed on September 18, 2026.
