About
The Town of Hanover Summer Internship Program is a paid summer job in the town government of Hanover, Massachusetts, open to motivated high school and college students. Interns spend most of their time working for the Town Manager and are also assigned to other town departments. The internship runs from the end of the school year until the next academic year begins. Interns work 30 hours a week over four days, including a 12-hour day each Wednesday, when Town Hall is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. As part of those hours, interns attend all Select Board meetings and five meetings of other town boards, such as the Planning Board or Conservation Commission, either in person or on Zoom. Assignments shift over the summer to fit each intern's skills and interests along with the town's needs. At the end of the summer, each intern writes a 500-word essay reflecting on what they learned.
Requirements
Open to high school and college students. Strong preference goes to students and graduates of Hanover High School and South Shore Vocational Technical High School, and to Hanover residents who attend or attended private high schools. To apply, students email a 500-word cover letter, a resume, and a letter of reference (teacher, coach, employer, counselor, etc.) to the town. The deadline for the 2026 program was March 20, 2026, and hiring decisions were announced in April 2026.
