About

The Field Museum Internship program in Chicago includes several summer internships for high school students who want hands-on experience in science and museum work. The museum says high school students can intern through a few specific programs, while its general internships are aimed at college students and recent graduates. Each summer, the museum runs paid, science-focused internships for high school and undergraduate students. The named programs are the Women in Science Internships, the Chicago Green Ambassadors Program, and the Digital Learning Internships. The Digital Learning Internship picks 15 high school students from the Chicago area for a five-week research project with a museum expert. That program runs from mid-June to the end of July, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. In 2026, it paid $17.25 per hour. The Chicago Green Ambassadors Program is a paid internship that links local neighborhoods with nearby green spaces. Interns work with other interns as well as museum scientists and researchers. Summer interns are also invited to staff events, exhibition previews and behind-the-scenes collections tours. Internships take place in person at the museum.

Requirements

High school students apply through one of the museum's dedicated summer programs; the Digital Learning Internship is for high school students from the Chicago area. Each program has its own online application. The museum says to check back in early 2027 for the next summer's openings. Other internships are posted on the museum's careers page.
