About
The Butler Machinery Work Study ND High School Program is a hands-on internship for high school students in North Dakota who want to explore careers as diesel technicians or in parts and warehouse work. Butler Machinery, a Caterpillar and ag equipment dealer, places interns in its service shops to learn about the ag equipment and diesel technology industries. In North Dakota, the program is offered at Butler locations in Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Grand Forks, Hankinson, Hoople, Jamestown and Minot, and Butler also runs the same program in South Dakota, Nebraska and Montana. Each intern is paired with a full-time service technician who serves as a mentor and provides on-the-job training. Students see several departments in the company and work around tools such as satellite navigation systems, computer-based diagnostics, electronically controlled engines and hydraulics. The program is meant to give students real industry experience before they commit to a diesel technology education. Some interns may later be considered for technician positions with Butler.
Requirements
Applicants must be current high school students and at least 16 years old. Interns must show up on time for work and pass a pre-employment drug test. Butler looks for students who are willing to learn, enjoy physical work and can solve problems. Applications are submitted online through Butler's careers portal.
