About

The Chicago Youth Service Corps (CYSC) is a paid, year-round service program run by the City of Chicago for young people ages 16 to 24, including high school students. It is part of Chicago Youth Works, the City's youth employment program that was called One Summer Chicago until it was renamed for 2026. Corps members earn money while doing community service projects that support the city. The program also includes project-based learning and leadership development. CYSC started in 2020 as part of Chicago's COVID-19 response. In its first two years, it employed more than 5,000 young people. Schedules and hours for year-round positions depend on the partner organization and the role. The program welcomes participants from all backgrounds and encourages them to bring their own experiences and traditions to their service.

Requirements

Applicants must be 16-24 years old and live in the City of Chicago, which is required for Chicago Youth Works eligibility. Applicants under 18 need permission from a parent or guardian. Applications are accepted online only, through the Chicago Youth Works application and any supplemental application for the program you choose. The 2026 Chicago Youth Works application was open from March 10 to May 29, 2026.
