About
The Kimberly Querrey Summer Research Program is a paid summer research internship at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine for rising high school seniors and undergraduates interested in the biological sciences. Interns are matched with Northwestern faculty and work on basic or clinical research projects related to lung disease. The program lasts six to eight weeks and requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Interns receive a stipend. The program takes place in person on Northwestern's downtown Chicago campus, and interns must arrange their own housing and transportation. Alongside lab work, interns take part in activities that help with college and graduate school applications and careers in science or medicine. The summer ends with a presentation at the annual Kimberly Querrey Summer Research Symposium. In 2026, high school interns started June 22 and the program ended July 31.
Requirements
High school students must be juniors at the time of application (rising seniors) and at least 16 years old by May 31 of the program year. Students from anywhere in the country may apply. Apply online with a CV or resume, a transcript, and two teacher recommendation letters; there is no application fee. Applications for the 2027 program are expected to open in early January 2027.
