About

The Los Angeles County Student Election Worker Program lets high school students work as paid election workers at Vote Centers during Los Angeles County elections. The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk runs the program. Student workers attend a training session, help open and close their Vote Center, and assist voters throughout the day. Students earn $100 for each day they serve and $80 for completing the training. Workers who speak a qualified second language can earn an extra $100 bilingual bonus. Students also get an excused absence from school on the day they work, and they can earn community service or service learning credit.

Requirements

Students must be at least 16 years old by the time of the election, attend a public or private high school, and be a US citizen or a legal permanent resident. Applicants need a GPA of 2.5 or higher and consent from both a parent and a teacher. To apply, students fill out a Consent Form signed by themselves, a parent or guardian, and a teacher or counselor, then attach the form to an online application. The county does not list a set application deadline; timing depends on the upcoming election.
