About

The NextGen High School Internship Program (also written Next Gen) is a paid summer internship for high school students run by the Department of Human Genetics at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Emory started the program in 2022 to build students' interest in science, technology, engineering and math. It is open to high school students of all backgrounds. Interns go to lectures and also rotate through research labs and clinical settings, so they get hands-on experience in both. The program also connects students with programs and businesses near Emory's campus. Activities continue during the school year after the summer ends. Students can contact the program by email with questions.

Requirements

Open to rising high school juniors and seniors. Applicants must be at least 16 years old by June 1 of the program year (June 1, 2026 for the 2026 cycle) and must show interest in bringing STEM education to people from many different backgrounds. The summer 2026 applications have already been reviewed, with results shared on March 27.
